Everton have confirmed that goalkeeper Joao Virginia has secured another loan move away from the club.
The 22-year-old has joined SC Cambuur for the 2022/23 season as he continues to seek further first team minutes with the Eredivisie club. The Portuguese youth international spent last term with Sporting in his home country, with reports over the course of the campaign suggesting that a permanent switch may be on the cards.
However that did not materialise and Virginia has been back at Finch Farm training with his Everton teammates over the course of this week, being pictured as recently as Wednesday in images released by the club. However, as the week continued, talks over another temporary switch progressed.

The pathway at Goodison Park has Jordan Pickford and Asmir Begovic at the front for senior contention, with Andy Lonergan having also been offered a new deal at the end of last term. Since joining the Blues in 2018, Virginia has earned the majority of his minutes with the under-23s, with a loan at Reading in 2019/20 being cut short early due to lack of playing time.
The goalkeeper was, however, handed his Premier League debut in March 2021, coming off the bench to replace an injured Jordan Pickford early in a 2-1 defeat to Burnley at Goodison Park - although he conceded no goals. Eight days later he made his bow in the FA Cup, and couldn't keep Manchester City winning 2-0 in the quarter final.
Virginia is under contract at Goodison Park until 2024. SC Cambuur, meanwhile, finished ninth in the Dutch top flight last season.
