Everton flop Dele Alli would be ‘one hell of a player’ at Liverpool or Manchester City, claims Neil Warnock

Everton are “not good enough” to match Dele Alli’s playing style, according to Neil Warnock, with the midfielder much better suited to the likes of Liverpool or Manchester City.

The ex-manager gave his view on the former Tottenham star as he spent a fourth consecutive game watching from the bench for the Toffees, who claimed a vital win over Manchester United on the weekend.

Following his transfer for Spurs in January, Everton will have to pay £20million once Dele plays another 14 games for the club - having signed him on an initial free transfer - but that tally feels a long way off at this point in time.

For Warnock, Frank Lampard’s team are simply not able to play to his strengths with the two Premier League title rivals instead the ideal clubs to return Dele to being “one hell of a player”.

“When I look at Dele, I feel sorry for him,” Warnock told Sky Sports, as quoted by HITC.

“Everton aren’t a team good enough or strong enough to give him the ball in the right areas.

“You play him off [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin. Play him off the striker and give him the ball in them areas. But they don’t do that. They are under the cosh all the time. They pass it in silly areas and don’t play them balls into feet and get runners, which he is good at.

“I think if you put him into Liverpool or Man City’s team, then you would get a hell of a player out of him.”
