Everton find Anthony Gordon replacement as Chelsea edge closer to £60m transfer agreement

Everton appear to have identified a replacement for youngster Anthony Gordon amid links with a move to Chelsea in the next week. The 21-year-old has impressed for the Toffees and is being eyed for a switch to Stamford Bridge as the Blues continue their strategy surrounding young talent.

It would be one of a number of deals Thomas Tuchel may look to get over the line in the remaining nine days of the transfer window. The strategy up to this point has been split between signing young promising talent such as Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Gabriel Slonina along with immediate first-team talent such as Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella.

However, after a heavy defeat away at Leeds, the German coach admitted he wasn't sure how much more business would get over the line: "I don't know. We need to wait.

"The transfer period is still open. It gets later and later, and we need to focus on what we have and what we can do. We can obviously play at a high level, but we lost track when there was no need. We were not forced to lose track. Everything was going well. We can win with this team in Leeds, everything was going well, and we had goalscoring opportunities. It went the other way, and I think it was more our fault than anyone else's credit."

Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are two high-profile moves that could still go through for the Blues in the next week, while a deal for Gordon appears to be progressing. According to Sky Sports, Todd Boehly is willing to pay up to £60million for the young forward as talks continue.

Should the west London outfit need any more hope of landing the England youth international, they may have been given just that. According to the Daily Mail, Everton are eyeing a move for Watford striker Joao Pedro as a possible replacement.

The report states they are willing to match an offer from Newcastle for the 20-year-old, tabling a £30million offer for the Brazilian.
