Everton fans love what cameras caught Anthony Gordon doing just after final whistle

It was a day to saviour for Evertonians at Goodison Park after securing a vital 3-0 win against Leeds United and Anthony Gordon was no exception.

The 20-year-old Scouser revelled in an all-action Everton performance and provided the assist for Michael Keane's first half headed goal.

He was then somewhat fortuitously awarded with a goal after deflecting Richarlison's shot into the net, before being serenaded by supporters as he left the field a few minutes later.

With Goodison Park rocking, Gordon re-entered the field of play at the full time whistle, to shake hands with his opponents and was caught on camera mouthing the words to Everton anthem 'It's a grand old team' alongside a deafening rendition from supporters.

After the match, Gordon told the Everton club website: "It was an incredible day today. The fans were unbelievable again and it was a great performance.

“The supporters got right behind us and, with the intensity Leeds play at, we had to match that.

“We’re playing with smiles on our faces and playing some lovely football and also mixing it up at times.

“The manager is putting his stamp on the team and it’s paying off. We just need to stick together, produce more performances like that, and results will come."

The Everton Academy graduate only realised that he had been credited with the Blues' third goal after leaving the pitch, but was modest in his acceptance.

He added: "I let Richy (Richarlison) celebrate because I didn’t really know the rules. But I’ll take it! I’m delighted."

Henry Winter, Chief Football Writer for The Times, was complimentary in his praise for Gordon.

He said: "Anthony Gordon has so much drive and ability he was always going to rise. Rise accelerated by Frank Lampard, perfect manager for him, backs and guides him, sees his versatility + FL knows a thing or 2 about runs from midfield.

"Assist, goal for AG today. And he's only 20."

Meanwhile supporters on Twitter were keen to back the youngster.

Park End season ticket holder @Littlefield79 Tweeted: "Anthony Gordon has to start every game for us now. He’s some talent and he’s an Evertonian, living the dream."

@UpperGwladysBlu added: "Anthony Gordon is 10 times the player Barkley is or was. Miles better. Miles more consistent too. Managers trust Gordon."

Everton remain 16th in the Premier League after today's victory but now have a four point cushion over Newcastle United, having played the same number of games (22).
