Everton fans campaign for big Goodison Park matchday change ahead of Chelsea

A group of Everton fans are campaigning for fellow supporters to welcome the coach to Goodison Park before the Blues take on Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Frank Lampard's side find themselves in the relegation zone heading into the weekend following their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Goals in the second half from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi were enough to earn the hosts all three points despite a spirited first half from the visitors and some controversial decisions from the officials.

Home form has been considered crucial in Everton's fight for survival for a number of months now. Evertonians are hoping that this latest move pre-match against Chelsea can generate an even greater atmosphere ahead of what will no doubt be a vital match for the side.

Twitter account Hans Tours said on Monday morning: "After speaking with other blues, it’s clear we need to do anything we can to show this team we are behind them. Trying anything possible in our final 6 games.

"On Sunday, welcoming the coaches in when the players arrive from midday on Goodison Road. This is after speaking to people who would normally be dead against it, I would’ve been against it until very recently, as would most of the people I speak to."

Within the space of an hour the tweet was already gaining traction from a number of other fan groups sharing their support of the idea. Everton, at the time of writing, find themselves two points behind Burnley with a game-in-hand on the Clarets - while Leeds United are a further point ahead.

Jesse March's side face Crystal Palace on Monday evening with the chance to potentially pull themselves further away from the bottom three. The Blues have a trio of matches still left to play at Goodison Park this season with Chelsea, Brentford and Palace still to make their way to Merseyside.
