Everton fan banned after jumping on pitch and headbutting police officer during Merseyside Derby

A Everton fan was given a five-year ban from attending matches after headbutting a police officer.

Alan Wiltshire was hit with the football banning order after police said he was convicted of pitch encroachment and assault of an emergency worker. The 31-year-old, of Newsham Drive, carried out the attack during the Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on December 1, last year.

In the attack, Wiltshire jumped over the hoardings of the Lower Gwladys Street stand, went onto the pitch and headbutted a police officer. The headbutt left the officer with bruising to his face, police said today.

As well as the five-year football match ban, Wiltshire was also given a community order with rehabilitation activity and unpaid work requirement. He was also ordered to pay £550 compensation and costs.

Superintendent Paddy Kelly said: "This type of behaviour will not be tolerated. Police officers and stewards are there to assist in keeping people safe and ensure that big public events such as football matches can run smoothly.

"Merseyside Police takes a zero tolerance approach when it comes to tackling football violence and we will do everything within our powers to bring the people responsible for behaviour such as this to justice."
