Everton 'fail' with 'two late bids' for Porto prodigy as Frank Lampard waits for transfer answers

Everton have had "two late bids" for FC Porto winger Goncalo Borges rejected, according to reports in the player's native Portugal.

Such reports originate from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, which claim the 21-year-old was the subject of £8.6m and £10.3m bids from the Toffee in recent days.

It is reported that the Prima Liga giants are holding out for a fee closer to £13m if they are to depart with one of their Porto B prodigies, who is said to be in first-team boss Sergio Conceicao's plans for the current campaign.

And as the summer transfer window enters its final innings, Frank Lampard's side continue to be linked with a move for a whole host of versatile forward options as they look to find answers to ease the burden on Anthony Gordon following the injury Dominic Calvert-Lewin sustained over the summer.

In the absence of an out-and-out No.9, 21-year-old Gordon has been tasked with leading the Blues' attack in a false nine role - where he has impressed as he's fired in back-to-back Premier League games.

But despite the impressive versatility, and obvious quality, of Gordon, Lampard's refusal to call on Salomon Rondon as his side chased a winning goal at Elland Road on Tuesday evening appeared to encapsulate the manager's thoughts on the current resources available to him in the final third.

Neal Maupay was of course signed from Brighton last week and despite missing the Premier League registration deadline for the games against Brentford and Leeds, due to a bizarre Premier League ruling, his presence will hand Lampard further quality to his ranks for this weekend's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

However, that hasn't stopped the Blues from being the subject of deadline day rumours, with the Daily Mail claiming the club are also exploring the possibility of signing Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze on an initial loan deal, which would include an obligation to buy.
