Everton facing new rival for Mykhaylo Mudryk as Jordan Pickford strengthens England claim

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Tuesday, September 27.

New Mykhaylo Mudryk rival emerges

Everton have suffered a fresh blow to their hopes of landing Mykhaylo Mudryk - with Newcastle United the latest side to be rumoured to have shown an interest.

The Blues had a €30million bid rejected for the Shakhtar Donetsk winger over the summer, as confirmed by their sporting director Darijo Srna, and have since seen a number of Europe’s richest clubs express their interest - thanks in part to the 21-year-old’s two goals and two assists in two Champions League games.

The richest of which are Newcastle who, according to reports, are considering a £50million bid for the Ukrainian. Eddie Howe’s side were desperate to add creativity during the summer, seeing approaches for Anthony Gordon, James Maddison and Jack Harrison all swatted away by Premier League rivals.

And they now look to be delving into the European market, with Mudryk the hottest prospect on the continent.

Pickford England point made

Jordan Pickford may have cemented his place as England’s No.1 last night without even playing.

With the Everton goalkeeper injured, Nick Pope was offered a chance to stand-in amid calls from some parts of the England fanbase that the Newcastle United stopper should be first choice.

But, after the Three Lions fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2 - with goals from Luke Shaw, Mason Mount and Harry Kane - the former Burnley man fumbled a weak shot straight into the path of Kai Havertz to equalise in the 87th minute.

The telling error - which ended England’s chances of a first competitive win since mid-November - may have further strengthened Pickford’s position as the best goalkeeper in the country, with Blues fans all making the same point.
