Gareth Southgate has some tough decisions to make as he narrows down his England squad ahead of the World Cup, with the choice of goalkeeper one of the key questions to answer.
Southgate is set to name his provisional squad for the tournament on Wednesday 19th October, which is 33 days before kick-off in Qatar. With the final 26-man squad needing to be submitted to FIFA by Sunday 13th November, there is still time to earn - and lose - those seats on the plane, with some huge talking points across the board during the international break.
As for Everton 's English players, Jordan Pickford, Conor Coady and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are hoping to get a chance to shine. After the heart-wrenching disappointment of the Euros final, Pickford - who starred in the penalty shootout despite defeat to Italy - will want to go one better this time around.
Pickford is Southgate's No. 1 goalkeeper and while a thigh injury has sidelined the 28-year-old at a bad time, he is expected to return after the international break though. While there has been some suggestion of competition from Newcastle's Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal, barring a dramatic late change of mind from the England boss Pickford will remain the starting stopper.
Coady also appears a shoo-in for the squad, with the centre-back a reliable defender and proven leader. He has performed well for the Toffees since making his switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan in the summer.
Meanwhile, Calvert-Lewin will also have to put in the hard yards to return to full fitness in time for selection. Everton's striker didn't get the chance to represent his country in the Euros final, and while his aerial ability could offer a great impact off the bench in Qatar, his chances look limited as things stand due to a succession of injuries.
