Everton 'could reignite' interest in Manchester United forward amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin dilemma

Here are your Everton morning headlines for Wednesday, December 28.

Everton 'could' move for 'frustrated' Manchester United forward

Everton could be set to reignite their interest in Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga as Frank Lampard looks to bring fresh attacking options to Goodison Park next month.

The Blues are understood to have been chasing the 20-year-old Swede last Summer and now the Daily Mail claims that the Toffees are back in for a player who has been 'growing frustrated' at his lack of minutes for the Old Trafford outfit.

Under Erik ten Hag, Elanga has only managed five Premier League starts so far this season, making a four minute cameo in a 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.

But with Lampard in desperate need of more firepower, the Mail says that Everton want to take the Red Devils youngster on loan. Any move however, would be subject to United bringing in their own replacements.

Frank Lampard faces selection calls as double dilemma emerges

Everton face the daunting task of going to Premier League champions Manchester City on New Year’s Eve, looking to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

Frank Lampard will be pondering whether to shuffle his pack at the Etihad Stadium and the Blues boss could face some big selection calls.

Lampard may decide to go with three centre-backs away to such gifted opponents though, which might give the former Barcelona defender a reprieve with attacking midfielder Alex Iwobi one of those whose place might be threatened by such a reshuffle, while Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana could be kept in for their more defensive outlooks.

On the wings, Dwight McNeil got the nod ahead of Demarai Gray against Wolves but despite providing the assist for Mina’s goal, made way early in the second half while Anthony Gordon spurned a big opportunity to put Everton back in front when picked out by Gueye, so there could be potential changes in the wide areas again.

Up front, Neal Maupay endured another difficult outing on Boxing Day but it remains to be seen whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin is fit enough to be considered for selection.
