Everton confirm permanent transfer of forward after loan decision

Nathan Broadhead has completed a permanent transfer away from Everton, joining Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old forward was recently recalled by the Blues from his loan spell at Wigan Athletic, for whom he scored five times in 22 Championship appearances. Broadhead was also loaned out last season, helping Sunderland achieve promotion from League One, with a further spell in the third tier at Burton Albion for the 2019/20 season.

Now returning to the third tier on a permanent basis, the Welsh striker will be looking to help Ipswich on their way to the Championship. The Tractor Boys currently sit third in the league table, two points adrift of the top two places occupied by Sheffield Wednesday and Plymouth Argyle.

Everton are believed to have generated a seven-figure fee from Ipswich for the services of Broadhead, who only signed a new two-year with the Toffees during the summer.

Broadhead first joined the Blues at the age of ten and made two senior appearances for the club as a substitute, earning his debut against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League back in 2017 - a fixture which also saw Anthony Gordon handed a maiden first-team appearance.

Addressing his move to Portman Road, which has resulted in a three-and-a-half-year deal, the Bangor-born star said: “I want to help this team get promoted and score goals in the process. Looking at it from the outside, it’s clear that Kieran McKenna has the team playing some really good football, and that’s something that made me want to come here. “Under him the team is going places and I will work hard to help.

“I’ve played at Portman Road as an opposition player (scoring for Sunderland in December 2021) and it was a hostile place playing for the other team – it was one of the toughest games of my career so far and was very intense. I’m looking forward to being part of it this time in front of the fans.”
