Everton confirm new signing after Jordan Pickford and Andy Lonergan injuries

Everton have confirmed the signing of experienced goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic on a short-term contract.

Injuries to both Jordan Pickford and Andy Lonergan left the Blues searching for a solution in that area of the pitch, with Frank Lampard's squad set to take on West Ham United at Goodison Park on Sunday. Asmir Begovic was the club's only fit senior shot-stopper leading into the clash.

However, Everton have now taken the decision to sign Jakupovic to bolster their options. The goalkeeper was a free agent after leaving Leicester City in the summer.

The 37-year-old, who was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a Switzerland international whose previous clubs also include Hull City, Lokomotiv Moscow and Grasshoppers Zurich.

Pickford is expected to be out of action until after the international break after picking up a thigh problem during Everton's 0-0 draw with Liverpool at the beginning of the month.

Lonergan, meanwhile, is set to be sidelined for the next few weeks as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

The club's under-21 options at goalkeeper include Billy Crellin, Zan-Luk Leban and Jack Barrett - with the former of those having picked up some minutes in the club's pre-season tour in the United States this summer.
