Everton confirm Leighton Baines training plan after Frank Lampard sacking

Everton have confirmed that Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take first-team training following Frank Lampard’s sacking.

Lampard’s sacking was confirmed on Monday following a string of poor results. A run of one win in 12 Premier League matches has the left the Blues mired in another relegation battle.

The search is now under way for Everton’s eighth manager since owner Farhad Moshiri took over the club in 2016. However, in the meantime, the club have confirmed that Tait and Baines will oversee first-team training until a new manager is appointed.

"Paul Tait and Leighton Baines will take training until a new manager is appointed," a statement from the club on Monday night revealed.

Tait, who was at Everton as a boy and played regularly for the youth teams and the reserves, is currently in charge of the club’s Under-21 side. He was appointed to the position in the summer after a spell as the Blues’ Under-18s boss.

Baines, on the other hand, is someone who needs no introduction to supporters after making over 400 appearances for the club. The former left-back was appointed as the club's first professional development coach working with young first-team players as well as the U23s and U18s back in September 2020, before taking over from Tait in the summer.

The ECHO understands Everton’s players were off on Monday, but will return to the club’s Finch Farm training complex for training tomorrow. The Blues are next in action against Arsenal a week on Saturday.
