Everton confirm Ben Godfrey expected return date and issue Yerry Mina injury update

Everton have provided an update on the extent of the injuries sustained by Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina in Saturday's Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The Blues suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Thomas Tuchel's side over the weekend but the defensive duo were forced off with injuries. Godfrey was stretchered off inside the opening 10 minutes and was replaced by Mason Holgate.

Frank Lampard was then handed a further blow late on as Mina limped off on 70 minutes with an ankle problem and was replaced by new signing Ruben Vinagre. The club have now released a further update on the length of time the pair will be on the sidelines.

Godfrey underwent a successful surgery on Monday morning on a fractured fibula and will now begin his rehabilitation at Finch Farm. The club anticipate he will be out for roughly three months.

Mina, on the other hand, sustained ankle ligament damage and will see a specialist later this week to determine the full extent of the injury. The club are yet to place a time frame on his return as they await further tests.

Speaking after the defeat to Chelsea, Lampard said: “Ben has got a small fracture. He’ll be out for a while and Yerry Mina has an ankle injury and possibly will be out for a while.

“When it rains, it pours. We had a little bit of that last season here unfortunately, but we have to dig in as a squad and get through that.”

Godfrey and Mina both had spells on the sidelines through injury last season but the Blues have bolstered their defensive options this summer with the addition of James Tarkowski. They're also believed to be closing in on a deal for Wolves captain Conor Coady.
