Duncan Ferguson has emerged as a surprise name being backed to potentially take over a National League side.
Stockport County are on the hunt for a new manager after the sacking of Simon Rusk earlier this week following a 2-1 defeat at home to Barnet on Tuesday.
The Hatters currently find themselves tenth in the table, five points off the play-off places, and are in the first round proper of the FA Cup in November - coming up against Bolton Wanderers.
Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor is the current favourite with BetVictor to take up the job and return to his former club, with Michael Appleton and Michael Flynn also high on the betting.
However, Ferguson also finds himself backed in to potentially take over the job.
The Everton assistant manager is currently priced at 5/1 to take the reins at Edgeley Park, in what would be his first permanent managerial role.
The former striker earned a lot of plaudits during his temporary spell in charge of the Blues first team following the sacking of Marco Silva in December 2019.
He led the club to an impressive win over Chelsea before securing draws with Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League ahead of Carlo Ancelotti taking over.
Next permanent Stockport County manager odds:
- Dave Challinor: 4/5
- Michael Appleton: 2/1
- Michael Flynn: 4/1
- Duncan Ferguson: 5/1
- Keith Hill: 10/1
- Joey Barton: 12/1
- Phil Parkinson (Altrincham): 14/1
- Pete Wild: 16/1
