Everton and Liverpool fans to unite for Anfield tribute to James Bulger

Liverpool and Everton fans attending Monday's Merseyside derby at Anfield are set to unite in memory of James Bulger.

Sunday, February 12 marked 30 years since James' death shattered the local Liverpool community. He was murdered by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson after being abducted in Bootle one month before his third birthday.

Now, 30 years on, the James Bulger Charity is calling on supporters from both sides of Stanley Park to pay their respects to James during tonight's Premier League fixture. Earlier on Monday, the charity revealed they had worked with a Knowsley-based supplier to produce a banner in time to be revealed at Anfield, reading: 'R.I.P James. 30 years on and never forgotten. You'll Never Walk Alone'.

Tweeting from the same account, the charity added: "Hand on heart, we never thought we could get this turned around in time. Thank you to Michael at LiverPrint who has designed and printed the banner for us. So now we just need to get applause on the 30th minute for the 30th anniversary."

After unwavering support from across the Merseyside region ahead of the heartbreaking anniversary, Stuart Fergus, partner of James' mum Denise and charity manager at the James Bulger Memorial Trust, told the ECHO of his hopes for an applause in the 30th minute of the match in memory of James.

Back in 1993, just days after James was tragically killed, a banner was displayed on Liverpool's famous Kop Grandstand in memory of the two-year-old, which read: "RIP James" and has since become synonymous with each anniversary.

Liverpool and Everton's match tonight kicks off at 8pm and will be shown on Sky Sports.
