Everton 0-3 Manchester United: Alejandro Garnacho nets stunning overhead kick as Marcus Rashford ends drought

Alejandro Garnacho scored one of the great Premier League goals as Manchester United picked up a 3-0 win over Everton.

A raucous atmosphere was expected at Goodison Park, as Everton played for the first time since they were handed a ten-point deduction during the international break, dropping them into the relegation zone.

Protests took place ahead of kick-off and the home fans were fired up as the match got underway, but there was a stunned silence within three minutes after Garnacho's incredible overhead kick.

Diogo Dalot got away down the right and lifted a cross to the back post, where Garnacho readjusted and, as he moved backwards, flung himself into the air and sent a stunning finish into the top corner.

Everton wasted chance and chance to equalise before the break, as United took a narrow lead into half-time, and it proved costly for the Toffees as the visitors pulled away in the second-half.

Marcus Rashford converted a penalty, his first goal for United since the beginning of September, before Anthony Martial scored against Everton for the ninth time to put the result beyond doubt.

It could, and probably should, have been very different for Everton. They responded well to that Garnacho opener, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin wasted two headed chances, one nodded over the bar and another straight at Andre Onana.

He tested the goalkeeper with a poked effort too, with Onana parrying that straight into the path of Dwight McNeil, and his follow-up effort was hacked off the line by Kobbie Mainoo, who impressed on his first Premier League start.

Idrissa Gana Gueye sliced an effort high and wide when free in the box, as the chances continued to flow for Everton, but United somehow made it to the break with their narrow advantage intact.

Martial was initially booked for diving when he went down inside the box after ten minutes of the second-half, but VAR sent the referee to the monitor. He returned to wipe away that yellow card and instead point to the penalty spot, with Rashford lifting the ball calmly into the top corner after Bruno Fernandes handed over penalty-taking responsibilities.

Martial has scored more goals against Everton than any other opponent in his career, so it was no surprise that the Frenchman got himself on the scoresheet. Fernandes slid a lovely ball through, and Martial did the rest as he dinked a finish over Pickford, sealing a win that lifted United to just four points off the top four, and six off the top of the table.
