Everlast Group profits almost double in bumper year despite pandemic impact

Roofing, scaffolding and rail infrastructure specialist Everlast Group saw profits rocket in 2021 thanks to new work and cost saving measures.

The Pudsey-based group - which delivers projects in the UK and Europe - saw pre-tax profits almost double from £3.2m to £6m in the year to the end of May 2021.

Despite pandemic-induced headwinds in the construction sector, Everlast saw turnover increase in the same period, from £30m to £38m.

Writing in accounts filed at Companies House, managing director Mike Hunter said directors were satisfied with the group's results given the economic environment, and said they were "very confident" that activity levels will continue.

During the year Everlast's roofing business generated turnover of £37.1m, up from £29.1m, and its scaffolding business generated turnover of £1.7m, up from £1.2m.

Addressing the impact of the pandemic in the accounts, Mr Hunter said its sector was hit by supply chain disruption and pressures.

He said: "The business has continued to operate throughout the coronavirus pandemic. Action was taken within the group to manage resources where there was some minor disruption, and support activities already geared to work remotely did so to meet Government guidelines and recommendations.

"The sector has experienced supply chain pressures with disruptions to European manufacturing and distribution leading to price increases.

"The group has taken steps to mitigate the impact to its cost base and continues to have strong relationships with its suppliers."

Across its divisions including roofing and cladding, rail infrastructure, scaffolding, facilities management and specialist surveying, the business has worked on prominent schemes such as regeneration of the landmark Sheffield Park Hill flats, waterproofing of York University and roofing at the Grade II listed London Victoria railway station.

In 2020 the group - which employs about 80 people - celebrated its 20th anniversary since Tom Deighton founded the business.

Since then Everlast has diversified into the education sector and following the Grenfell Tower tragedy has delivered a number of fire prevention projects.
