But speaking to the Standard, the Chancellor welcomed what he called a “crucial vote of confidence” in the capital’s continued recovery from lockdown slumber, as Guinness announced plans to open a 50,000 sq ft, £73 million microbrewery, event space and restaurant in Covent Garden.
While the Government gears up to publish its long-delayed and much-vaunted Levelling Up white paper, it is encouraging to hear senior ministers give London’s economy the due care and attention it deserves. We hope this trend can continue, with a long-term financial package for TfL, as well as a renewed focus on urban poverty, housing and infrastructure.
