Eve Myles sets record straight on Torchwood rumours and John Barrowman as she pleads with trolls to 'stop the hating'

Eve Myles has addressed a public Twitter spat between her and Torchwood co-star John Barrowman for the first time. Earlier this week, Barrowman publicly criticised Myles for "spewing rhetoric" in response to a video of the pair gushing how much they cared for one other. After making the comments, Barrowman left Twitter and now Myles has issued a statement.

"Hello. John & I have talked & all is fine. We loved working together & given the opportunity we would jump back into Gwen & Jack tomorrow! Please can the hating stop. It’s so upsetting. Please!" she began. "Also nobody has approached me for a reboot, sorry to say. Have a peaceful Xmas all," she added, quashing apparent rumours of a Torchwood reboot with Myles as the lead.

Barrowman's initial attack on Myles prompted an overwhelmingly negative reaction on social media. However, following her statement, people seem happy that the disagreement has come to an end.

"I'm glad it's resolved," wrote one person in response to Myles' tweet. A second added: "The hate is unneccessary, we all loved you! Have a happy xmas!"

In a similar vein, a third said: "It was so awful seeing people I know are Torchwood fans retweeting and joining in with all the hate directed at John." And a fourth commented: "Thank you EVE!!!! I knew it! Where did this rumour and all the negativity come from? We know you are friends and I am so relieved you got to talk about it."

Myles and Barrowman appeared together in Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood from 2006 to 2011. With the former playing Gwen Cooper and latter reprising his role as Captain Jack Harkness, the series followed the adventures of a team of alien hunters in Cardiff Bay. Torchwood was the brain child of returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies.

Following Disney+'s acquisition of Doctor Who, fans have speculated that Davies intends to relaunch Torchwood and also produce a series of other spin-offs. You can get more TV news and other story updates straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.
