Bono's daughter Eve Hewson has admitted she didn’t want her famous father’s singing advice ahead of starring in her new movie Flora and Son.
The actress plays a struggling young mother in Dublin who attempts to connect with her troubled son, played by Oren Kinlan, who has separated from his father (Jack Reynor) but makes a connection with a musician (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in the John Carney-directed movie.
But Eve said when it came to singing, she didn’t turn to her U2 frontman dad for advice.

“I’ve learned so much from him, in terms of life presence, stage presence. But I didn’t ask him for help,” Hewson says at the Variety Sundance Studio presented by Audible. “He offered, and I was like, ‘No thank you.’ He’s, like, a really good singer so I was like, ‘No, no, no.’”
But she said she understands why her father loves being on stage. “I grew up musical, so it was kind of natural for me,” she says. “Being on stage, being the front person, I was kind of into it.”
She said she remembers telling her father, “I see why you like this. This is kind of fun.”
Apple has secured the worldwide rights to Carney's Flora and Son in a reported $20m deal. Apple was also behind streaming Hewson’s hit Bad Sisters.
The movie is Carney’s first since his 2016 sensation Sing Street, which also premiered at Sundance.
And just like Street, it too features original songs by Carney and his frequent collaborator, composer Gary Clark.
Carney first came to prominence for his musical drama Once, the low-budget 2007 film that earned more than €20M globally and won an Oscar for the song 'Falling Slowly'.
