Brutal verdict delivered on two summer transfers

Broadcaster and Nottingham Forest fan Darren Fletcher has questioned the contributions of two Nottingham Forest players this season.

Djed Spence hint dropped ahead of Forest return

Tottenham Hotspur assistant head coach Cristian Stellini has hinted that Djed Spence could feature for Spurs against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

The Reds host Antonio Conte’s side in the third round of the Carabao Cup (7:45pm kick-off) as they look to make it to the next round of the competition. The game will see a familiar face return to the City Ground, with the possibility of a full debut for his new club.

Full-back Spence became a fan favourite during a season-long loan spell at Forest last season. The defender played a big part in the club’s promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

“For our young players, every game is the game to trust in him,” Stellini said (via football.london ). “If we think the EFL Cup is important, we need the players who are ready."

Man Utd revelation made over Forest star

Nottingham Forest full-back Neco Williams turned down Manchester United as a youngster in favour of joining Liverpool, it has been revealed.

The defender joined the Anfield club at the age of eight, making his way through the youth sides. He made his first team debut in the EFL Cup fourth round tie against Arsenal in October 2019, going on to make his league debut later that season after the break for the Coronavirus outbreak.

After making a total of 33 appearances for Liverpool, Williams completed a move to Forest in the summer. He has featured in every Premier League game so far this season.

Ahead of making the journey both the full-back’s mother and father have reflected on his journey to representing Wales in the World Cup. His father Lee revealed that Williams had a decision to make over two clubs when he was just eight years old.

Evangelos Marinakis sent transfer warning

Nottingham Forest made major headlines in the summer as they spent £150m to bring 23 new players to the City Ground.

With the Premier League set to go on hiatus after this weekend until Christmas due to the World Cup in Qatar, another transfer window is on the horizon for Premier League teams.

However, on the latest Garibaldi Red podcast, broadcaster Darren Fletcher, who was joined by host Matt Davies and Forza Garibaldi's Greg Mitchell, advised Evangelos Marinakis to learn from his previous transfer mistakes.

"I'm fascinated by who leaves," Fletcher said. "They can't just add, they have to subtract. Do they look at a couple who are in the team and think we might have to sacrifice them? The owner can't keep putting his hand in his pocket without getting anything back.

"The strategy now has to be about quality. There's depth in the squad now, so what they need are players who can make a difference to the XI. I don't think the owner will have a problem making significant additions and those players can be found."
