Nottingham Forest headlines for Wednesday, April 12
Sacking at City Ground
Nottingham Forest supporters have been reacting to the news that sporting director Filippo Giraldi has been relieved of his duties at the club.
The former Watford transfer chief has left the City Ground after just six months, with Forest confirming his departure in a statement on Tuesday evening.
Now Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has also been offered a solution as he plots a way forward, with the Reds urged to follow the Brighton and Brentford models that have brought so much success to the unfashionable clubs.
Giraldi shown door
Nottingham Forest have axed sporting director Filippo Giraldi as they battle to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.
The Italian was appointed in October with a view to evaluating the existing infrastructure at the City Ground as the club looked to adapt to life in the Premier League. But he has been sacked after just six months amid what has been a difficult season for the Reds.
The news comes with Forest having dropped into the bottom three at the weekend after defeat at Aston Villa made it nine games without a win. They have eight games left to try to escape the drop, starting at home to Manchester United on Sunday.
Relegation battle field
Nottingham Forest currently find themselves in a position they haven’t been in since early January - the Premier League relegation zone.
Defeat at Aston Villa extended the Reds’ miserable winless streak to nine games. They now have eight matches in which to claw their way out of trouble.
But results need to improve very quickly to keep Forest in with a chance of staying up and not cut away. We have taken a look at the next five fixtures for Steve Cooper’s side and how the games compare to those of their main relegation rivals.
Centre of attention
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis McGugan has called on Steve Cooper to play a central striker if they are to save their Premier League status.
The Reds slipped into the relegation zone at the weekend after going nine games without a win following the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Forest have scored just five goals away from home and only 24 in 30 games in total. Cooper has deployed Morgan Gibbs-White as a false nine in most games but McGugan feels that needs to change, starting against Manchester United on Sunday.
