A 15-meter-tall statue of the upper body of the famed "Unit-01" from popular anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion" has been showcased at the Toei Kyoto Studio Park, a theme park in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, which uses film sets of historical dramas of the samurai period.
The new attraction called the Evangelion Kyoto Base has been installed in the northwestern corner of the theme park that is not being used for filming. Visitors can take commemorative photos on the palm of the statute's hand and can also hop inside the machine's "entry plug," the replica Unit-01's cockpit. They can also buy limited edition goods and desserts modeled after Evangelion characters.
This marks the first permanent display of a large-scale anime-related statute. Visitors can pay to enter the attraction after first making a reservation. "Please enjoy the sight of an Evangelion as it suddenly appears in the town of Edo," said a spokesman for the theme park.
