Residents near the Eaton and Palisades fires in Los Angeles County received some relief on Friday as more areas previously under evacuation orders were opened up. A 'significant portion' near the Eaton Fire was made accessible, with further openings expected the following day. Authorities are gradually allowing residents to return as approximately 280 personnel are actively working in the area on missions.
Evacuation orders were also downgraded in the Palisades Fire area, permitting some residents to go back. However, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath stressed the importance of wearing N95 masks due to lingering airborne toxins in the region. She highlighted the extensive and complex nature of the ongoing work, cautioning that the situation is far from normal.
Utility infrastructure in the fire-affected region has suffered damage, requiring time to address these issues effectively. Despite some areas being temporarily opened to residents, a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. remains in place for evacuation-ordered zones. Residents are advised to retrieve essential medications and belongings before leaving the area, as evacuation orders will only be lifted once it is safe for residents to return.
