Eurovision Song Contest star David Ducasse has revealed he is now working in a South Shields vets, 15 years on from 'flying the flag' for the United Kingdom at the world famous event.
South Tyneside star David and bandmates Natalie Powers, Caroline Barnes and Russ Spencer were the UK's representatives for the competition, back when it was held in Finland in 2007, a year after 'monster' group triumphed with their rock anthem Hard Rock Hallelujah.
By the time they hit the Eurovision stage, Scooch, once dubbed 'the new Steps,' had already tasted sizable chart success in the UK, thanks to songs like When By Baby, More Than I Needed to Know and For Sure, and their journey to Helsinki got off to a dramatic start when late BBC presenter Terry Wogan announced their rival Cyndi as winner of the national final.

While Scooch delivered a spirited and attention grabbing performance on the night, their airline inspired rendition of Flying The Flag (For You) didn't land well with juries, finishing 22nd out of 24 on the leaderboard. The insanely catchy song did however go onto be a top 5 hit in the UK and the group went onto perform at a number of big events, including a number of Prides across the country.
David was back in TV spotlight on Wednesday, two years after concerning fans with the news he'd suffered a heart attack, two feature in a BBC Breakfast feature on Newcastle's bid to host Eurovision next year. And David appeared on camera from his new workplace, with the BBC reporter remarking he'd gone "from Scooch to pooch."
During the interview David admitted he believed Scooch were a serious contender to triumph in 2007, saying: "Of the four of us, I was the one who genuinely believed we could win, so I was gutted. The others were just enjoying the champagne, whereas I was sitting there doing the maths thinking it was getting further away."
He added: "As an experience, I think any Eurovision entrant would say 'we'd do it all over again.' David was quizzed on if Scooch would reunite should Newcastle be successful in its bid to host the contest and replied: "100%, I'd swap this t-shirt and go get my cabin crew outfit out the wardrobe! Who wouldn't want to be involved? Esp4ecially when it's on your doorstep."
