With tickets going on sale for Eurovision next week, thousands of people across Greater Manchester will already be plotting on how to get Liverpool and where to stay when the event comes to the North West for the first time ever in May.
When it was announced that Liverpool had won the bid in October 2022, Mayor Steve Rotherham called out hotels over price hikes and a number of two-person rooms are priced up between £1,000 and £1,868 for the date of the grand final - Saturday May 13. All of those hotels are drastically cheaper the week after.
A night at the most expensive two-person single-night hotel room that we found in Liverpool, on price comparison site Trivago, costs £1,299 more on May 13 than it does on May 20. However there are some much cheaper options available, despite differing levels of price rises being extremely common across the board.

If you want to stay in Liverpool itself, there are a few hotels under the £300 mark. For convenience, the pick of these is probably Travelodge Liverpool Central Exchange Street.
The hotel costs £260 for the night and is less than a 20 minute walk from the M&S Bank Arena, where the final is being held. It is also just over a five minute walk from Pier Head - where the Eurovision Village will be based.
Slightly further afield in the suburb of Fazakerley is the cheaper Travelodge Liverpool Stonedale Park. A similar room there is £220 and the Arena is around an hour away on public transport or around 25 minutes in a taxi.
On the other side of the River Mersey, in the Wirral town of Bromborough, we found a two-person room for £159 for the night at Village Hotel Wirral. The hotel is just 17 minutes away in a taxi. It is also served by bus from Liverpool city centre but on the night of the final, the last bus currently scheduled to Bromborough departs at 10.40pm - which is likely to be well before the time the event finishes.
The prices of those three hotels are all higher than they usually cost with Liverpool Central Exchange Street and Travelodge Liverpool Stonedale Park costing £200 and £120 respectively, for a similar room on May 20. Meanwhile a two-person room at the Village Hotel Wirral costs £117 on May 27 (it is listed as being sold out on May 20).
Alternatively, if you think you can stay up partying until the very early hours of the morning in the centre of Liverpool after Eurovision (and then don't mind a bit of a wait at a railway station) then the first train back on Sunday May 14 is at 8.15am - an off-peak return ticket between Manchester to Liverpool costs £14.30 per person.
