Eurovision's Sam Ryder gets royal seal of approval as he begs fans to help him 'make history'

Sam Ryder has appealed for help from fans as he bids to make history with his Eurovision song Space Man as he gets a firm royal seal of approval.

It's still only been five days since the TikTok star did the unthinkable and finished second on the leaderboard in Turin, after delivering an amazing performance during this year's final., complete with electric guitar solo. And, as as he bids to translate his success in the Eurovision Song Contest to the UK charts, Sam has just released a new version of the track, featuring said solo, as he hopes to dethrone Harry Styles to claim number 1.

Former One Direction star Harry has been sitting pretty at the summit of the top 40 with his song As It Was, but, after being on the outskirts of the top 5 over the weekend, newly crowned national treasure Sam, who gave the UK its best Eurovision result since Imaani in 1998, has now edged in front of him and is desperate to keep his lead ahead of this week's rundown being announced on Friday.

If Space Man reaches number 1 it will be the first UK Eurovision entry to top the charts since Gina G in 1996, when, despite only finishing 8th in the contest, she landed one of the biggest hits of the year with Ooh Ahh Just A Little Bit. There are now five different version of Space Man on iTunes and, appealing for fans to keep downloading and streaming, Sam took to Twitter to post: "UK LEGENDS ASSEMBLE!!! Space Man is SO close to being NUMBER 1! When we do this (I have full faith) we will have made history as the first Eurovision entry from the UK to be number one THIS MILLENNIUM."

Sam's plea for support with his chart campaign has been backed by BBC Eurovision commentator Rylan Clark, who shared a download link to Space Man and joked: "DO THIS NOW OR A PLAGUE ON YOUR HOUSES!." And on Thursday afternoon, Sam returned to Twitter toi issue another plea, writing: "The UK No.1 is getting super close and I FULLY believe we can do it!

There are 5 versions of ‘Space Man’ available on iTunes and I’d love for you & your loved ones to go download them if you are able to (each one counts) LET’S MAKE HISTORY TOGETHER."

Sam's quest for number 1 comes as he has been confirmed on the line-up for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Concert, alongside legends like Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and Elton John.
