Two of the five major European leagues kick of their new seasons this weekend as the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 both return along with the Premier League while Serie A and La Liga start a week later.
The top clubs around the continent are still attempting to strengthen their squads for testing campaigns ahead with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and both Milan clubs among those who are still in the market to make new signings.
With the transfer window set to close on September 1st Mirror Sport has rounded up the best of the transfer news, rumours and speculation from around the continent.
Depay makes free demand
Memphis Depay has reportedly told Barcelona he wants to leave the Nou Camp on a free transfer if he is deemed surplus to requirements. The Dutch striker has fallen down coach Xavi's pecking order since the arrival of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha – but according to Mundo Deportivo, Depay will only move to a club who can offer him Champions League football.
It is only 12 months since the former Manchester United misfit joined Barca from Lyon, and Juventus – looking to replace Paulo Dybala – are among the clubs who have registered an interest.
PSG and Barca battle it out
Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are gearing up for a tug-of-war to land Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva. The French champions are embarking on an overhaul of their midfield, closing in on the £15 million capture of Renato Sanches from Lille, according to multiple reports on the continent, including Le Parisien. And Bernardo, who was close to leaving the Etihad last summer before his sparkling early-season form applied the brakes on his potential exit, is also on Barcelona's wish-list.
PSG sporting director Luis Campos was instrumental in recruiting Bernardo at Monaco during his spell in the principality, where his most notable 'discovery' was Kylian Mbappe. But it would be a spectacular coup if he could lure the City star to the Parc des Princes because Barcelona have been long-time front runners for Bernardo's signature.

Mertens snubs Juve
Dries Mertens has turned down a move to Juventus - as a mark of respect for Napoli after leaving them at the end of last season. The Belgian forward is a free agent, and the Old Lady turned their attention to Mertens after being repeatedly thwarted in their attempts to conclude a deal with Atletico Madrid for ex-Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata. But Italian sporting daily La Gazzetta dello Sport says Mertens, 35, has rejected a £4.5 million-a-year contract from Juve because they are arch-rivals with Napoli, where he became the club's all-time leading scorer with 148 goals.
Inter want Singo
Inter Milan have identified Torino wing-back Wilfried Singo as their No.1 choice to replace Denzel Dumfries if the Dutch defender is sold to Chelsea. Dumfries has been linked heavily with a move to Stamford Bridge, and Turin newspaper Tuttosport claim speedy Ivory Coast international Singo, 21, tops Inter's list of contingency replacements. To date, Chelsea's initial offer of around £22.8 million for Dumfries falls well below Inter's £40m valuation. But if the Blues make an offer Inter can't refuse, Singo would be the preferred replacement at the San Siro, although Lazio’s Manuel Lazzari and Real Madrid ’s Alvaro Odriozola are also under consideration.
