Bickering on the Hotline. It never stops.
Another day of summer passes by and another day of folk getting stuck into each other. It doesn’t need football games to be taking place for debate to be fierce.
As usual, rivalry in Glasgow tops the bill, but there’s a decent undercard with even tennis players and golf chiefs getting smashed. Firstly, Chris Lowe, Yoker , who said: “Josip Juranavic can’t get a game in front of Anthony Ralston, but is somehow worth £15million He was also part of a Celtic team that was humiliated throughout Europe from teams made up of waiters, dishwashers and firemen.”
William Hutchison, Aberdeen , continued: “I’m a Celtic fan, but I’m fed up with both sets of fans saying how good they will do well or even go further in Europe than the other half. No ball has been kicked yet so why talking like this now? Just remember the saying of pride before the fall. Let’s see how each match turns out before gloating. Also good luck to Hearts, Motherwell and Dundee United. The more Scottish teams going further in Europe the better.”
Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon , said: “It’s getting beyond a joke fans in Hotline bickering. Fact is everything about Celtic is amazing. They’ve had their dark days like every club, but fact is we are one of the most iconic clubs in world football. Incredible to be a fan. A club like no other.”
Sean Beech, Hampshire , said: “You’d think that having only won two trophies in 11 seasons that the mighty Rangers fans would be too embarrassed to show their faces. Instead though all this talk about Celtic in Europe is just to cover their own embarrassing failure to win anything in a two horse race.”
Robert McQueen, Dalmarnock , said: “Who did Scotland proud across the continent? Who are Europe looking at? It’s not Celtic. It’s Rangers for their outstanding efforts in the Europa League. We’ll get into the Champions League group stage and prosper. Celtic, as usual, will be humiliated.”
At least Jake Curley had a laugh when he said: “Captains Log. Star date 2032. Big spending Celtic finally pass Rangers’ 32 year old record transfer fee for Tore Andre Flo. Use it any time in the future.”
Alfie Mullin, London, had a query and said: “Why should Celtic get a bye into the second round of the Premier Sports Cup? Their first Champions League match is not until 6th or 7th September and the last Premier Sports group matches are on 23rd and 24th July. It’s not as if the group stages will clash with Celtic’s European misadventure.”
Meanwhile, as Martin Boyle’s future is on the agenda as he contemplates a relegation with Saudi outfit Al Faisaly after leaving Hibs in January. Kevin Lord, Drylaw , said: “Always the risk this was a stepping stone to one of the Glasgow Derby two. Can’t wait until he comes up against Darren McGregor or Ryan Porteous.”
Tennis and golf got airings on the Hotline. Nick Kyrgios’ outbursts at Wimbledon and spitting caused a stooshie with Alice Donald, Edinburgh . She said: “What a disgrace this guy is. He talks about disrespect. He has no respect for anyone. Basically saying some people are too old to line judge. A brat.”
As for golf, Ralf McGinn, Aberdeen , said: “I’m getting sick of this LIV golf chat. Let them get on with it. No-one picks my job. I don’t see why anyone should be picking theirs? Saudi money is everywhere in sport. Deal with it.”
