Europe's best don't want Celtic and Rangers as Glasgow tipped as Champions League banana skin

Former England star Joleon Lescott believes no team will want to face Celtic or Rangers in the Champions League group stage.

The former Manchester City and Everton defender is part of the BT Sport panel covering the draw as Europe's top sides learn their fate for this seasons competition. The draw includes Glasgow's big two in a major boost to the Scottish game. The Hoops earned their place via last season's league triumph while Rangers joined them after successfully navigating two rounds of qualifying.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's men went all the way to the Europa League Final last season and had Europe stand up and take notice with notable scalps on the way including German giants Borussia Dortmund in their own back yard. They once again put in a performance to remember on the road as they defeated PSV one-nil in the Netherlands to take the play-off tie 3-2 on aggregate thanks to Antonio Colak's winner. Lescott is no stranger to games at Celtic Park hailing the atmosphere as 'outstanding' and he reckons the Old Firm pair are two teams the big guns will want to avoid in Pot 4.

Speaking on BT Sport, he said: "I am excited to see what atmospheres they bring [Celtic and Rangers]. I have been there as a fan in regards to watching friends play at Celtic Park. It's outstanding.

"You hear all the great teams like Barcelona and some of the greatest players talking about the atmosphere's at those stadiums. No team will want to go there and have to face that.
