The RAF Eurofighter Typhoon will return to Swansea's Wales Airshow this summer for the first time since 2019. It is the second big name confirmed for the two-day spectacular taking place over the skies of Swansea Bay on July 1 and 2, following the announcement that The Red Arrows will also thrill crowds at the annual show being organised by Swansea Council.
The jet was very much missed by the public last year and Swansea Council said it had pulled out all the stops to bring it back for 2023. The RAF Typhoon Display Team will make an appearance on both days of the airshow.
There will also be many other stars of the skies and a wide range of fun things to do for families including displays, virtual reality experiences and live music. Council cabinet member, Robert Francis-Davies, said: “Like the Red Arrows, the Typhoon is a huge draw and we’re delighted that it’ll be flying over Swansea again this summer. "As Swansea’s reputation grows as a top class venue for big events, the Airshow is a great partner for others such as the returning IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea and World Triathlon Para Series Swansea. Other city highlights this summer are also set to include Sam Ryder, Madness and Ministry of Sound Classical playing Singleton Park.”
Last summer, the airshow returned after a two-year break due to the Covid pandemic and was a big success with thousands of visitors. Cllr Francis-Davies said: “Among the stars of the show are the tens of thousands of people who enjoy a day out or a weekend in Swansea. There’s a real family atmosphere which results in a great weekend for all involved. It contributes millions of pounds to our local economy and we thank businesses and residents for their patience with the necessary road closures - and to all the traders and our sponsors for their contribution to the show’s ongoing success.”
