After months of fighting rumours and speculation that Euphoria season three was dead in the water, HBO has finally revealed when the beloved teen drama is going to hit our screens.
But before you get too excited, the anticipated release date is in 2026. Yep. At that late stage, I’m not sure if anybody will still want the damn show.
The Warner Bros. Discovery Global streaming chief JB Perrette made the announcement during Wells Fargo’s tech and media conference, as per Variety.
It looks like Euphoria season three will finish filming by mid-2025, so it’s odd that it’ll take so long to get to our screens.
Colman Domingo, who plays Rue’s (Zendaya) Narcotics Anonymous sponsor Ali Muhammad, let some info leak earlier this week in a new interview.
Speaking about the film he’s directing called Scandalous!, which stars Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, he said the pair are hoping to go into pre-production once season three has wrapped.
“Our goal is to shoot it right after we’re both done with Euphoria, so hopefully I’ll go into prep right after that next year, probably in the third quarter of next year, and then hopefully we’ll make a beautiful, sweet film that’s really about the possibility of love,” he told Screenrant.
The one saving grace about Euphoria season three suffering delays is that there will be a time jump, so the actors won’t be playing high schoolers any longer.
Zendaya, who is an executive producer on the show, recently confirmed the time jump is happening.
“I don’t actually know about much about what is happening,” Zendaya told EW’s The Awards podcast. “I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know that the time jump is happening.”
“I think, to me at least, it is and will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside the context of high school. And how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids and were in high school affects the kind of adulthood they had and who they become in a much bigger world,” she added.
“So yeah, I’ll be interested to see what happens too.”
It’s not clear how many years in the future the series will jump, but that’s a relief!
