A number of children's toys and baby products being sold on online marketplace Etsy have been urgently recalled due to safety concerns over choking, strangulation, and injuries. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued recall notices for items in question, which have since been delisted from Etsy.
Product recalls and safety notices are made by traders about products that have problems which could affect the safety of the consumer. When a product is recalled for any reason details are shared by Trading Standards over what you should do if you have bought the item as well as detailed information on why the product is being pulled from shelves.

Baby rattle
Etsy is recalling a baby rattle. The product has been recalled because it presents a high risk of choking.

The item has been identified as presenting a high risk of choking as the small wooden ring broke on abuse test and produced small parts which fit into a small parts cylinder. This means a young infant could place these parts in their mouth and choke. The item is also not labelled with manufacturer or importer details and lacks relevant markings. The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Etsy is recalling the product from end users and has been delisted from its online marketplace.

Etsy is recalling a magnetic fishing toy on a wooden board. The product has been recalled because it presents a high risk of choking.

The product presents a high risk of choking as the magnet may detach from the fishing rod, producing a small part. This means if a child puts the small part in their mouth it could block their airways. The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. Etsy is recalling a magnetic wooden fishing rod toy because it presents a high risk of choking and injuries.

The product has been identified as presenting a serious risk of choking and injuries as, when tested, one small part (magnet) produced from the wooden block on the fishing rod was found to have a magnetic flux of 227.4kG 2mm2, which is greater than the limit allowed of 50 kG²mm². Small, high-powered magnetic products can be easily swallowed and, when ingested, have the potential to cause serious internal injuries within the gastrointestinal tract.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a product safety alert for small, high-powered magnetic products which can be accessed here. Etsy is recalling a wooden baby gym because it presents a high risk of strangulation.

The product presents a high risk of strangulation as the length of the hanging toys from wooden ring and beads is 240mm which is greater than the maximum permitted of 220mm. The hanging toy can be tangled and form loops as the combination length of hanging cord is 420mm, which can cause a strangulation hazard to young infants. The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The product is being recalled from end users and it has been delisted from Etsy's online marketplace.

Etsy is recalling a wooden baby gym frame with hanging toys because it presents a high risk of choking and strangulation.
