eToro Review 2023

Summary

eToro users can buy and sell a range of stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and cryptoassets – many with 0% commission fees.

Review

eToro’s easy-to-navigate website and mobile app allows users to invest in more than 2,700 stocks and shares and more than 60 crypto assets, including coins such as Bitcoin and altcoins such as Dogecoin. Cryptoassets are highly volatile and unregulated in the UK. There is no consumer protection and tax on profits may apply.

Users can also invest in ETFs from $50 (£41), and in complex and risky contract for differences (CFD) trades. Be warned, however, that CFDs can land you in debt and 79% of retail investors lose money when trading CFDs with eToro.

eToro’s Smart Portfolios offer curated collections of assets to ensure diversified holdings, themed around industries like technology and crypto, or around types of investment strategy.

Smart Portfolios allow you to mimic eToro investors’ portfolios automatically, and those who become templates for other investors to copy are eligible for rewards.

You’ll need to invest at least $500 (£432) to take advantage of Smart Portfolios, and you need to close the entire Smart Portfolio in order to cash out. Copy Trading does not amount to investment advice. The value of your investments may go up or down. Your capital is at risk.

Outside of trading, eToro offers an investors community in which users can share news and strategies, an educational ‘academy’ for users to learn more about investing, and an exclusive club for members who make more than $5,000 (£4,318) in equity. The eToro Club offers members a dedicated ‘customer success’ agent, free webinars and access to subscriptions such as The Wall Street Journal.

eToro has apps for Android and iOS, plus a separate eToro Money wallet app in which to store the private and public keys to your crypto holdings.

Fees

Crypto trades on eToro attract a flat fee of 1% of the transaction value, whether buying or selling.

There’s no commission or management fees to pay on stocks or ETF trades, but there is a flat fee of $5 (£4.32) for withdrawals.

Your capital is at risk. Other fees apply. For more information, visit etoro.com/trading/fees.
