Ethan Sutherland St Mirren transfer exit to Wolves latest as deal close

Ethan Sutherland is closing in on a transfer move to Wolverhampton Wanderers from St Mirren.

The 18-year-old winger is poised to sign a long-term deal with the Premier League side days after making his Scottish Premiership debut.

Sutherland - who spent last season on loan at Alloa - made a cameo appearance against Celtic but is expected to complete a transfer down south before tomorrow's deadline.

The Scotland under-19 squad member has played three times for St Mirren this season and is tipped as a potential star of the future.

Manchester City and Chelsea were credited with interest in the teenager last season but Wolves have now moved into pole position for Sutherland's signature.

No deal has yet been finalised but talks are advanced over a £300k transfer fee with Wolves chiefs keen to tie down the promising player who can also play at left-back.

"There is obvious interest in Ethan from Wolves but it is not concluded as yet," said St Mirren chief operating officer Keith Lasley of interest in Sutherland.

"It's looking as if it is heading that way.

"In general terms, it's obviously a busy time. There are a lot of phone calls and there is a lot going on.

"If you ask most clubs, they will tell you that is the case.

"You have a Plan A and a Plan B and see where you are but we're always preparing for every eventuality in the transfer window."
