Davante Adams is coming off one of the best seasons of his career. In his first season with the Raiders, he went over 1,500 receiving yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He was named a first-team All-Pro selection as he was a dominant force for the Raiders.
But is there a chance that he would like to move on if things go south this year? In a recent article by Dan Graziano of ESPN, he wrote about ten of the most intriguing players going into the 2023 season. That list included Adams, who is entering Year 2 with the Raiders.
After some interesting off-season comments, Graziano wonders if Adams could ask for a trade during the season if things go poorly. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on the future of the All-Pro receiver for the Raiders this season:
But things could get ugly in a hurry for the Raiders, who have seen a major overhaul since McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler got there 17 months ago but don’t appear to be any better. In fact, some might say they appear to be worse than the team that finished the 2021 season on a playoff run under interim coach Rich Bisaccia with Carr as its emotional leader.
If that’s the case, will Adams want out? At the trade deadline? After the season? The potential for Adams to be on the move again so soon after bailing out of Green Bay is worth watching. And if it comes to that, it might be hard to blame him.
Adams is a team player, so things would have to go really poorly in order for him to ask for a trade. He seems to be willing to give Dave Ziegler, Josh McDaniels, and Jimmy Garoppolo a shot to have success in 2023.
But if the Raiders struggle and fail to make the playoffs this year, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see the team move him in the 2024 off-season. This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as Adams wants to win and wants to be with a franchise that has a chance to win a Super Bowl.
