With the Big Ten drastically changing, many have wondered how Ohio State football will fare in this new 18-team dynamic.
Oregon, Washington, and USC are the major players who have entered the picture, with top holdovers in Penn State, Iowa, Michigan and the Buckeyes still challenging for the conference crown. As the season is rapidly approaching, ESPN updated its 2024 Big Ten projections (subscription required).
Ohio State is at the top of their list, with a 30.9% chance to win the title, and a 51.8% probability to win 11-plus games. ESPN’s model also likes Oregon’s chances as well, as they are just a bit behind the Buckeyes at 26.1% to win the Big Ten, and 47.2% to surpass the 11-win mark.
As for the three-time defending conference champion Wolverines, ESPN gives them a a 17% chance at a four-peat, with just 23.4% to win over 11 games. The Nittany Lions have better odds to win the conference according to their metrics.
ESPN also names each of Ohio State’s contests over the top three contenders (Oregon, Michigan, and Penn State) as one of the five best conference games of the season.
We are in for another great Big Ten season, and hopefully the Buckeyes can achieve all of their lofty goals for the campaign.
