ESPN’s Robert Griffin III Names Wide Receiver as Legitimate NFL MVP Candidate

Even by his already high standards, Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has leveled up in 2023.

A year after his 1,496-yard, 11-touchdown season garnered down-ballot MVP consideration, Brown has racked up 809 receiving yards in just seven games. His 115.6 yards per game are far and away a career high, and his only current peer at his position appears to be Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill.

ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, noting how much better Philadelphia has been since acquiring Brown in April 2022, suggested Tuesday that Brown should be a candidate for MVP.

"I don’t give a FLYING FLOCK OF BIRDS if the MVP is a QB award. I’m gonna shine this light on the players who are playing they ass off," Griffin wrote in a social media post. "A.J. Brown changed this Philly team the second he walked in the door and EARNED the right to be in the MVP conversation right now. Period."

Indeed, the Eagles went 14-3 and won the NFC title in Brown's first year with the team. Now, they are 6-1 and share the NFL's best record with the Chiefs.

However, no wide receiver has won the AP's MVP award since its 1957 institution.
