ESPN’s Pat McAfee says ‘vibes are high’ with Macdonald’s Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are in an unusual position. Most times, when there is a new coach, there is always a level of optimism and excitement for what the future will hold. However, a level of trepidation that goes along with it. For in most cases, when a team hires a new coach it is usually because said team is coming off a disastrous run and needs to rebuild.

Seattle is in a different spot than most. Yes, they replaced Pete Carroll with Mike Macdonald as their head coach, but it’s not like the Seahawks in the last year of Carroll were a disasture. Sure, the defense was a mess for yet another season, which likely led to his ouster, but the team still finished 9-8 and were in the playoff picture in the final week of the season. Carroll did not leave the cupboard bare for Macdonald to rebuild from scratch.

As such, there is an unusual optimism surrounding Seattle, especially after how strong they’ve looked so far in the preseason. It is not just the Pacific Northwest noticing, but the national media as well.

ESPN’s Pat McAfee spoke on his show how he feels the vibes coming from the Seahawks feel great.

Of course, the preseason is not always a fair indicator of how well a team may or may not do. The Kansas City Chiefs went 1-3 in the preseason during the 2019 campaign before they won their first Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the infamous 0-16 Detroit Lions of 2008 were a perfect 4-0 in exhibition games.

Still, it is undeniable how bright the future feels for Macdonald’s Seahawks. For the first time in a while, a breath of fresh air is in the franchise.

This team is still far off from being a true Super Bowl contender in year one of this new era. But the possibility for a strong season is still very much on the menu for Seattle.
