The Chicago Bears have been the subject of criticism this offseason. New general manager Ryan Poles has been rebuilding the roster his way, which has included parting ways with expensive veterans and signing a lot of cheap, prove-it deals.
It’s far from a finished product, as Poles is fixing the mess left behind by former GM Ryan Pace. But given the Bears have their potential franchise quarterback in Justin Fields entering a pivotal Year 2, there are plenty who disagree with how Poles is handling Fields.
Analysts from various outlets aren’t expecting much from Chicago in 2022, with some going so far as to predict the Bears finish with the worst record in the NFL.
ESPN’s Keyshawn Johnson is the latest critic to emerge, and he absolutely tore into the Bears roster.
“Quite frankly, this roster sucks,” Johnson said on NFL Live. “That’s the reality of it. It’s not a good roster. There’s no players there. Think about it, they’ve only got two or three players that could probably start on another team.”
While Johnson’s point is clear — and fair — there was plenty of hyperbole in his statement. Especially when it comes to the two-to-three-starters comment.
The Bears might not have the strongest roster in the league, but they’ve got plenty of talent in players like defensive end Robert Quinn, linebacker Roquan Smith, cornerback Jaylon Johnson, quarterback Justin Fields, wide receiver Darnell Mooney and running back David Montgomery, among others.
