Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been the center of attention heading into Sunday's AFC championship game showdown with the Buffalo Bills not only because of his level of play and his chase for NFL history, but also because some of the calls he has gotten from refs in big playoff games.
On Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that next year the NFL replay rules will be expanded a bit to allow calls around quarterback slides to be looked at and possibly changed.
Schefter announced the news in a tweet that centered around Mahomes and the calls he has received:
For all those complaining that Patrick Mahomes gets too many calls, relief soon could be on the way.

NFL replay assist is expected to expand this offseason into plays that could include the quarterback slide, league sources told ESPN.https://t.co/4w3haqOW7i
Lots of people didn't love the way Schefter framed that tweet around Mahomes, given that the changes will be for all QBs.
Framing this around one player is NASTY work https://t.co/maOSNGl6o8

Listen, I (and basically everyone) like @AdamSchefter.

But writing this piece, framing it around Mahomes exclusively, and not including the fact that *the league says both calls were correct & replay wouldn’t have changed either* is simply ludicrous & poor journalism. https://t.co/lO8gizt6zG
Seriously bizarre framing here. https://t.co/hHZ66mnRno

Shamelessly making this about Patrick https://t.co/n1REVCUV2w

Can’t believe this tweet is coming from an actual “reporter.”

Rules protecting the QB affect every team (except Lamar… but that’s a different story). To call out the face of the NFL is the kind of stupid that is reserved for nameless twitter accounts, not ESPN employees? https://t.co/O8CvuFIxYJ
Awful framing https://t.co/NbvDp9o8Wh

really cool to entirely frame this around mahomes, famously the only quarterback to ever be involved in controversial penalty calls. https://t.co/uFJLcbbgq8
