ESPN predicts Colts accomplish something they haven’t done in over a decade

Will the Indianapolis Colts snap their 11-year AFC South division title drought?

Some of the team executives that ESPN spoke to recently are willing to make that prediction.

Every January, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler speaks with team executives from around the NFL and puts together very early predictions for the upcoming season.

One of those predictions was that in 2025, the Colts will win the AFC South for the first time since 2014.

Despite coming off an 8-9 season filled with numerous bumps along the way, what has some feeling optimistic?

Well, the Colts generally draft well, which has given them a strong foundation for their roster, and according to Fowler, the general feeling is that Ballard will be more aggressive in free agency this offseason.

“Adding a few more pieces and supporting the quarterback could go a long way,” said a high-ranking NFL official. “And that division is very winnable.”

As Ballard sat in front of the media for his end of season press conference a few weeks back, he noted that how he went about building the 2024 roster was a “mistake.” What Ballard was referring to was running it back after the team missed the playoffs in 2023.

Ballard would go on to emphasize the importance of adding competition throughout the roster this offseason. In order to accomplish that, free agency is going to have to be a part of the equation, although Ballard wasn’t going to commit to anything specific and back himself into a corner.

If the Colts are going to expect change in Year 9, things have to be done differently. And with Ballard’s team again failing to make the playoffs or win the division, along with him being on the hot-seat, one would think some form of change is coming. But will it yield the desired results to win the division?
