ESPN NFL draft analyst believes potential Commanders’ GM opening will be the most attractive

The 2023 NFL season is in the books. The Washington Commanders finished 4-13, losing their last eight games, and ended with a nice consolation prize: The No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Unfortunately for head coach Ron Rivera and his staff, it’s unlikely they’ll be making that pick. The Commanders are expected to move on from Rivera and make widespread organizational changes, including hiring a new general manager and head coach.

With the No. 2 overall pick, three of the top 40 picks, and six in the top 102 picks in the draft, plus around $80 million in salary-cap room with the ability to create more, the Commanders could be a destination job for potential GM candidates.

According to one ESPN NFL draft analyst, it will be the best job. Jordan Reid — no, not the former tight end — believes the potential Commanders’ GM opening will be more valuable than the Chargers, who have a franchise quarterback in place (Justin Herbert).

By holding the No. 2 overall pick, Washington will not have to trade up for one of the potential franchise passers in the upcoming draft. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels are all considered top-10 picks, with Williams being the presumptive No. 1 overall player. Interestingly enough, Williams is a Washington, D.C. native.

It should be a wild and exciting offseason for Washington fans, where they can finally have real hope with Dan Snyder no longer around.
