ESPN names Raiders as potential suitor for WR Davante Adams

There are less than 50 days until NFL free agency kicks off and the Raiders are expected to be very aggressive. Before making any moves, the Raiders are projected to have over $27 million in cap space and could save nearly $12 million more by moving on from Cory Littleton.

With the Raiders making the playoffs in 2021, it’s time for the team to take the next step. So how do they get there? By adding some more superstars to their roster.

One of the biggest names scheduled to hit free agency is All-Pro receiver Davante Adams. Given the current cap situation in Green Bay, there is a chance that he hits the open market. And if Aaron Rodgers decides to leave or retire, that only increases the chance that Adams moves on from Green Bay.

So where could he land? In a recent article by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, he mentioned the possibility of the Raiders being interested in Adams. Here is a snippet of his thoughts on Adams and the likelihood that Las Vegas could land him.

“The Raiders have a natural connection to Adams, who played college ball with Derek Carr. Adams alongside slot receiver Hunter Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller would help Las Vegas maintain pace in the AFC West track meet.

But cost is a major issue with anyone approaching Adams. A few veteran agents agree Adams would be smart to aim for a three-year deal for at least $80 million with high guarantees.”

The Raiders do make a lot of sense for Adams for multiple reasons. He already has a connection to Derek Carr and those two thrived together at Fresno State. The Raiders also need an outside receiver and he would fit perfectly into their offense. Finally, the Raiders have the cap space to afford him and he would fill their biggest need.

If Adams does reach free agency, the Raiders would have to be among the favorites to land the five-time Pro Bowl receiver. And if they do sign Adams, they would instantly become a legit contender in the AFC.

This is the type of signing the Raiders need to take the next step as a franchise. Will they get the chance to make a play for Adams? That remains to be seen.
