ESPN names Jets among teams as best fits for DeAndre Hopkins

The Jets are all in for the 2023 season. They traded for Aaron Rodgers, signed multiple wide receivers and tried signing Odell Beckham. Why not try to push just that much more by adding recently-released wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins?

They very well could be in the mix and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler named them among a group of teams considered as best fits for the former Cardinals and Texans pass-catcher.

New York was very close to signing Odell Beckham Jr. before the Ravens came with a compelling offer. The Jets appear open to adding another target for Aaron Rodgers. New York has $6.9 million in cap space but can create more by reworking the salaries of C.J. Mosley ($17 million) and Corey Davis ($10.5 million). A receiver nucleus of Garrett Wilson, Hopkins, Allen LazardMecole Hardman and Davis would be dangerous.

Hopkins recently shared his list of quarterbacks he’d like to catch passes from and Rodgers wasn’t on that list. But if the Jets make a play for him, you’d think he would quickly change his tune seeing the offense he’d be stepping into. And as Fowler notes, the Jets would have quite a strong group of wide receivers if they can reel in Hopkins. It will be interesting to watch this play out.
