In the third edition of the NBA MVP straw poll — which asks 100 media members, at least two from all 28 markets, to vote for a winner — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received some love.
The Oklahoma City Thunder star finished sixth in MVP voting, with 26 total votes — three fourth-place votes and 23 fifth-place votes. This resulted in 32 combined points in ESPN’s Tim Bontemps’ voting system.

Gilgeous-Alexander jumped from No. 7 to No. 6 in MVP voting in the straw poll. In 64 games this season, he is averaging 31.3 points on 62.5 true-shooting percentage, 5.4 assists and 4.8 rebounds. The 38-39 Thunder currently sit in 10th place.
The leading MVP candidates are Joel Embiid, who’s in first place, and Nikola Jokic, who’s in second place.
