ESPN analyst floats big offseason prediction for rebuilding Patriots

With the 2023 season in the rearview for the New England Patriots, predictions are beginning to roll in regarding their offseason. One of those predictions came in an intriguing proposition from ESPN’s Aaron Schatz, who floated out a free agency and draft prediction for the Patriots.

Schatz wrote:

The Patriots will draft a young quarterback in the first round and then give him a top target to help him get used to the NFL. With a ton of cap space for 2024, the Patriots will be able to afford an expensive contract and bring in Michael Pittman Jr.

The Patriots are coming off a 4-13 season in 2023 and should be looking to restock the team with young talent. Having the No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft, along with plenty of money to spend in free agency, should give them an opportunity to do exactly that.

The quarterback talent is there for the taking with the third overall selection.

Caleb Williams and Drake Maye could both still be on the board by the time the Patriots make their selection. However, Williams and Maye won’t be enough to jumpstart a unit that ranked 30th in the league in total offense alone.

It will take other pieces around the quarterback to fix one of the NFL’s worst offenses, and it won’t be a quick fix, either.
