Escape to the Country star Jonnie Irwin's fans say new update has given them 'hope'

Fans reacted with delight to a funny video Escape to the Country star Jonnie Irwin shot at a TV awards ceremony this week. Jonnie, 49, admitted recently he’d been having hospice care to help him cope with the pain from his terminal cancer.

The popular presenter was at the Television and Radio Industries Club Awards, in London and followers were thrilled to see him larking about with fellow host Jules Hudson. Jonnie who was looking tanned and wearing a suit and hat suggested Jules was showing a bit too much chest.

Then Jules unbuttoned another button and Jonnie went in for the kill - proving how irresistible he was. Fans were delighted to see Jonnie so animated and said he had given them hope. See the video below.

Chaz and Marie said: “I have stage 4 cancer and seeing you living life to the full is wonderful.” Jonnie’s sister Amanda said: “How do you do it little bro! What an absolute fighter! #inspiration #proudsister”.

JulesDan said: ”You’re absolutely amazing !!!!!! and the courage you’ve shown your children is amazing, what an inspiration you are.” Alliwaggle said: “Lovely to see you smiling and making others smile too!! x Bless you Jonnie x.”

Nannyween added: “Awwwww makes my heart melt ....just love these two ...keep fighting Jonnie.” MinsSarah said: “You give us all hope - a total inspiration Jonnie and great to see you so well.”

At the event Jonnie, who comes from Leicestershire, said: “Today is a good day. Yesterday I peeled myself out of bed and munched painkillers but so far so good today.

“I take every day as a gift and as it comes.” He said his Escape To The Country friends were like a “family” to him and supported him throughout his journey.

“With a notable exception from one production company, as soon as they found out they put their arm around me and, insurance provided, they looked for work when I could,” he said. “So any location that was anywhere near me I was first candidate for and they really helped me find work.

“They were understanding especially with travel arrangements. They were so supportive I can’t thank them enough.” He added as he referred to the show’s TRIC nomination: “They are family. It’s recognition for all the work that production, post production and crew all put in.

“I’ve worked on Escape for coming up to ten years, but 20 years in the industry and I’ve had the most fun and its the most like a family of all the shows I’ve done.”
