Escape to the Chateau viewers 'heartbroken' minutes into new Channel 4 show

Escape to the Chateau viewers were left "heartbroken" just minutes after the new Channel 4 show started on Sunday (Oct 30).

Fans couldn't wait to catch up with the Strawbridge family in France, but it wasn't long before they heard some upsetting news about the Channel 4 series.

As Dick, 63, and Angel, 44, set about their tasks at Chateau de la Motte Husson following a two-year hiatus from TV due to the Covid pandemic, the narrator revealed it would be the family's "final chapter".

Viewers were disheartened by the announcement, with several taking to Twitter to express their dismay.

One said: "Heartbroken this is the last series, I love seeing what Dick, Angel and the children are up to every year."

While another tweeted: "The final? Noooooooo…"

In September, Angel and Dick confirmed the ninth series of Escape to the Chateau would be their last.

In a statement they said: "It’s our finale of the classic Escape to the Chateau, it’s been an adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold. The good, the bad and the ugly…we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older.

"We are so grateful for all the love and support…and we promise to continue our adventures with you, just in a different way, as we venture outside the gates of the Chateau and explore the wonderful country we live in. Escape to the Chateau: Secret France (WT)...next year…we honestly cannot wait...Thank you Channel 4."

A statement from Two Rivers Media, the production company behind Escape to the Chateau, added: "The 2022 season will be packed with more heart-warming family adventures, innovative renovations and spectacular celebrations from Dick and Angel and their children Arthur and Dorothy.

"But this year will also have special significance for, whilst it is not goodbye, it will be au revoir from the Chateau, because 2023 will see Dick and Angel focusing on their Secret France (wt) adventures."

Since bursting onto our screens in 2016, Dick and Angel have kept viewers enthralled as they took on the mammoth task of renovating a 45-bedroomed chateau in Northern France.

Thankfully, Dick's engineering acumen combined with his wife's exquisite eye for detail were the perfect combination and over the years the couple have transformed the property into a stunning family home and wedding venue.

The TV stars got married at their beautiful 19th-century castle back in November 2015, which is the perfect place to get hitched.

However, anyone with their heart set on saying 'I do' at the chateau will have to plan ahead as the property's popularity combined with the coronavirus pandemic means there is currently a huge backlog of weddings.
